Sometimes people misquote scriptures.

What are some misquoted scriptures that you know of or some phrases that people say are scriptures??

            Misquote                                                                     Correct Quote

1. Money is the root of all evil                        1 Tim 6:10a  For the love of money is the root of all evil

2. Cleanliness is next to Godliness  (don't exist)

I hear #1 misquoted all the time!

I don't think Spare the rod, spoil the child is in the bible, but if you look at Proverbs 13:24- KJV He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes... it may be up for interpretation.

I can't think of any other misquoted scripture right now, but the thing that gets me is when people use half of a verse and run with it- instead of reading the chapter and verse in it's entirety to get the full meaning. Like for instance the ones about... husband is the head of the wife.... and wifes submit to your husband... some men take that and run with it, when actually the scripture says much more. We had several big discussions about that in bible study.

Ephesians 5:22-25

22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husband, as unto the Lord

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church, and he is the saviour of the body

24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing

25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it.

Yes indeedy!!

Not to be bashing men, but I definitely see some men take that scripture and run with it.

Also, some people do take a scripture just to fit their situation without reading the whole verse or chapter in its entirety.

Our bible class on last week was about the different kinds of storms in people lives as well as in the church:

snow storms  -when it's hard to see your way through

hail storms- self explanatory

thunder storms  -  i.e. (I'm going to get so and so told) or (they don't know who they are messing with)

The Word of God tells us to ask of Him for understanding.
