Good Afternoon Everyone

My question is what do you think make a good choir?
I am over an array of talent however they are so old school until getting them to try new things is the biggest challenge. So with that being said how do you get people who are southern baptist....get in to more contemporary music?

I look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Thanks

Well I am not baptist, but this is a very good topic however.  What makes a good choir is first good leadership, anointing, and people with some kind of singing skills.  Choir today have a tendancy for singing either ALL contemporary or either ALL traditional gospel.  I think a good choir needs to sing a mixture of songs.  This is depending on the congregation.  If you have a congregation of alot of young people then the best choice is to sing most of the contemporary music but add some traditional standards also.  If the church is composed of mainly elderly people, then the best choice is traditional or hymns that lean more toward that generation.

If you are trying to get a choir to change styles of singing, then I think you should easily mix contemporary songs in with those that the choir is use to singing, but never try to change the style by adding a bunch of contemporary standards all at once.  So it may be easier to try one contemporary song the first time and go with what is already in place.  If you find that they like this idea, then start accumulating comtemporary songs but still continue to keep the traditional or old school songs in place.  If they don't like it then continue to sing the old-school songs but add some flavor to it so people will not be bored singing or hearing the EXACT SAME SONG.  I hope this helps.  Be Blessed.
